There are lots of ways that acupuncture can help with Fertility and the IVF process.

Studies show that Acupuncture, in conjunction with IVF, greatly enhances a woman’s chances of conception.

So how does it work?

How acupuncture works is by tiny needles (sterile & disposable) being inserted into your body, it triggers the nervous system to relax by producing endorphins and lessens the release of cortisol into the blood stream.  Acupuncture is a successful tool that treats the root cause of infertility, increases in vitro fertilization (IVF) and intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) success and prepares men and women for pregnancy.

Acupuncture also has the ability to help in the following ways:
  • Stress - alleviates stress as the IVF journey is a stressful one.
  • Helps with IVF medication side effects.
  • Regulates your immune system - can boost your immune system
  • Reduces uterine inflammation - encourages the embryo to attach to the uterus
  • Increased blood flow to the uterus - improves the lining of the uterus so that the embryo can get the required nutrients once it implants
  • Improving ovarian function - improves quality eggs & regulates hormones to produce larger number of follicles.
  • Decreases uterine contractions - to ensure that transferred embryo's are not expelled
Male fertility:
Acupuncture can address male fertility factors as it has the ability to increase the parameters of sperm motility, morphology and count.  This further aids fertilisation of eggs leading to viable embryos.

Please see following research findings on acupuncture in conjunction with IVF/ICSI:

A study published in 2002 shows that acupuncture treatment administered 25 minutes before and 25 minutes after IVF treatment increased success of pregnancy by 15 percent.

Acupuncture on the day of ET significantly improves the reproductive outcome of IVF/ICSI, compared with no acupuncture:

What our Clients have to say....

Karen, Dublin

I’d like to thank Niamh for all her treatment and care during my last pregnancy.  I came to Niamh requesting help to keep my blood pressure down because on my previous pregnancies I was on medication for BP which I wanted to avoid on my third pregnancy.  Niamh treated me on a regular basis and I avoided medication and high BP issues. I also had 2 previous  inductions and I really wanted to avoid a third induction.  Niamh started pre-induction treatment a few weeks before my due date and then worked up to the full induction the week of my due date and I was delighted when I started labour myself 3 days after my due date and baby was born soon after that.  Niamh did a great job and gave me the outcome that I wanted.  I’d highly recommend Niamh because she is friendly, approachable, very professional  and thrives to achieve the best treatment for her clients.

Jane, Bettystown, Co. Meath

I visited Anam Mai Acupuncture for treatment for post natal depression, anxiety and stress, and found it to be extremely effective.

Niamh has a natural caring attitude towards her clients, and a real passion for her career. In this way, she earns your trust and you feel able to put yourself completely in her hands.

For those who have never tried acupuncture, Niamh is always ready to explain what she is doing and how this will be effective. She has clearly been trained very well in her chosen profession, and her love for this shows through.

I would have no hesitation in recommending Niamh and acupuncture to my friends and family. I found that she was able to help me enormously, and I am grateful to her for this

Lisa, Drogheda, Co. Louth

I attended Niamh in Anam Mai Acupuncture throughout my third pregnancy and found the sessions really beneficial. I had never overly been a fan of needles before, but I found that I really looked forward to my treatments with Niamh. Her easy manner and quiet confidence allowed me to relax and leave my stress behind. I found the acupuncture treatments wonderful for blocked sinuses and pregnancy swelling in my legs and ankles. I went for weekly treatments and the last treatment I had was two days before I gave birth to my beautiful baby boy at home after a short and wonderful labour. Thank you Niamh for all your help and support throughout my pregnancy and post-natally!
